Psychopomp Shrine, Mixed Media sculpture ( lacquer, wood, ceramic)/ Performance, 2014, Camilla Lundquist

Documentations by Johan Österholm, Madelaine Sillfors, Tatiana Novikova, Fabian Tholin.

Psychopomp Shrine, a place of worship for those who seek aid in communication; it takes the form of a typical swedish red wooden house with a vietnamese lacquered ceramic roof. The psychopomp (soul bearer) idol in the shrine is depicted as a horse headed figure and was used in repetitive and random performances everyday during the length of the exhibition. These performances could be seen as everyday life cleaning rituals.

A second performance was performed a week after the death of a beloved family member. This performance was only done once and the shrine was used to guide the soul of the deceased to the afterlife. Some of the pictures above are the documentations of that performance where offerings were burnt for the deceased.
