Documentations by Tatiana Novikova.
The “Mirror of Truth” is an object from Buddhist mythology that reflects all of your good and wrong doings in order to pass judgement in the afterlife.
The warped painting inspired by the Mirror of truth carries many hidden marks of struggle between the Vietnamese material and the Dry Nordic climate. The material’s lack of cooperation with the environment is symbolic of my own struggle with my identity.
Vietnamese lacquer is unique to Vietnam. The paint is made from fermented resin, mixed with pigment and then painted on specially prepared wooden canvases.
